Starting a blog, a website, a YouTube channel, an Instagram page, taking photos, drawing, painting, or even singing and writing songs are all projects I have explored and continue to explore. Whatever your project is (or multiple, like me), they are crucial to our daily lives and mental health, and even physical health if that applies to you.

Personal projects often start as a simple hobby, something we do to distract ourselves, sometimes without even realizing it. But over time, we come to understand that they are more important than we initially thought. They are a form of expression, a way to escape routine, and a fun, creative method of getting to know ourselves better. These are moments we set aside for ourselves, free from external and internal pressures, without the need to please anyone—just for the joy of creating and evolving.
This aspect of having no pressure is crucial. We need to have these projects for ourselves and not worry about what others think, even if we share them online, as I do. If they don’t like it? Too bad, I like it, and I will continue. If they do like it? Great, let’s share ideas.
When we dedicate time to something we are passionate about, we feel a sense of fulfillment that is hard to find in other areas of life. Even if the project does not have a specific goal, simply doing something for the love of it is already valuable. Growth, small progress, and even challenges are part of personal development.
Additionally, personal projects help us develop skills. Photography teaches us to notice details, writing improves our communication, music sharpens creativity, and any artistic activity strengthens our patience and persistence. Even if we do not become experts, everything we learn along the way contributes to our growth. Even "giving up" or realizing "this is not for me" is part of self-discovery. So if you do not have a project yet, pick one and dedicate yourself to it. If it doesn’t work out, you can always start over!
And you don’t have to wait for the "right moment" to start. If something sparks your interest, give it a try! You may discover a new talent or simply find a new way to express yourself. The important thing is that the project is yours and makes you feel good.
At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter if you have many followers or if people praise or criticize your work. What matters most is what these projects mean to you. They are a reflection of who we are and what makes us happy. And that, in itself, is already worth it.
